March 10, 7:00 p.m. Speaker, John Grafton: Topic: Varroa mites and Nosema Cerena locally and its effect on the honey bee population. John is the retired State Apiarist of Ohio and directed all honey bee inspections in Ohio until his retirement in 2008. He is currently teaching and running a farm in the Columbus area.
April 14, 7:00 p.m. Speaker, Dave Duncan: Topic: Swarm prevention. Dave will be discussing management techniques on how to prevent swarms. Dave is a long time beekeeper and operates his own business Beeology.
May 12, 7:00 p.m. Speaker, Bob Hooker: Topic: Simple Queen Rearing Methods. Bob has been a beekeeper for 30 years and is the Pastor of the United Methodist Church in Oberlin.
June 9, 7:00 p.m. Speaker, Sonny Barker: Topic: Building Strong Colonies. Sonny is retired and is the current president of the Richland County Beekeepers Assoc. and past president of the Ohio State Beekeepers Assoc.
July 14, p.m. Speaker, Karin Wishner: Topic: Preparing bee products and entries for the Cuyahoga County Fairand an extracting demonstration will be given. This is our annual picnic and will be held at the Fairgrounds. Bring a covered dish.
Aug. 11, p.m. Speaker, Kirt Ward: Topic: Fall Wrap up and preparing your colonies for winter. Kirt has been a beekeeper for about 18 years and is a member of GCBA.
Sept. 8, 7:00 p.m. Speaker, Kim Flottum: Topic: TBA. Kim is the editor of Bee Culture Magazine and president of Eastern Apicultural Society, president of Medina County Beekeepers Assoc. and past president of Ohio Beekeepers Assoc.
Oct. 13, 7:00 p.m. Speaker, Walter Jorgensen: Topic: Marketing your bee related products. Walter has been a beekeeper for about 15 years and sells his products at Jorgensen’s Apiaries located Grand Pacific Junction, in the old jail.
Nov. 10, 7:00 p.m. Speakers, Carol Gedeon and Bonnie Pierson will give a report on Apimondia held in France last year. Apimondia is the largest beekeeper gathering held in one place from around the world. Also we will have the county apiary report from the county bee inspector.
Dec. 8, 7:00 p.m. Speaker: Shelley Bodkin: Topic: Soap making with honey bee products. Shelley and her husband Bob have been beekeepers for 11 years and have won many places at the County Fair for their honey bee products. This is also our Christmas Banquet. Bring a covered dish.
Jan. 12, 7:00 p.m. Speaker: Don Downs: Topic: Apitherapy. Apitherapy is the practice of using bee venom, pollen, proplis, honey in homeopathic methods
